September 11, 2001: Cape Cod. Showers then granola. A brilliantly sunny and azure blue vacation day. Then gasps and confusion. A brief thought that the world might be ending. No beach today, only TV. Outside…stillness save for the cry of seagulls and the chatter of pick-up truck radios. Fishermen huddling, steam rising off their coffee. Church chimes that strike throughout the day, the week, the year. Forever.
